1. Intumescent (Contact Supplier)
- Is a thin layer coating usually applied by spraying several layers, trowel apply or brush application. Thickness may vary up to 7mm thick.
- When fire occurs, the coatings generally expand into char giving a protection to the structural steels.
- Fire rating: Up to 2 Hours
- Advantages:
- Thinner layer
- lighter in weight
- better texture
- color can be any
- Disadvantage:
- Cost can be higher than vermiculite and fire wrap.
2. Vermiculite (Contact Supplier)
- Is a type of fireproofing coating that looks like cementitious type that is applied using spray or trowel.
- Thickness can be 25mm or more
- Fire rating: Up to 4 hours
- Advantages
- Price can be cheaper than intumescent
- Disadvantages
- Heavy and thick
- Craggy surface
- Cannot be painted to color

- Is a type of fireproofing that is wrapped on the surface of the structural steels instead of spray or trowel application
- Fire Rating: Up to 2 hours
- Advantages
- Price can be cheaper
- Easier to install
- Shorter application/installation time
- Lighter than vermiculite
- Disadvantages
- Thick and bulky
- finishing is less attractive compared to intumescent
